Abstract:
|
This field campaign produced data over the Amazon Basin in Brazil for wet and dry seasons. It covers the data on aerosol extensive properties from polluted and cleaner environments over and around Manaus in Brazil using DOE G-1 research aircraft. These observations will help reduce the uncertainties in climate models, key topics to be investigated are:
Aerosol Optical Properties
Aerosol light scattering coefficient
Aerosol light absorption coefficient
Chemical composition of non-refractory material associated with light-absorbing carbon (LAC)
Production rate of secondary organic aerosol (SOA)
Microphysical processes relevant to determining aerosol size distributions and single scattering albedo (SSA)
CCN activity.
These topics are investigated through aircraft measurements with flight duration of 0.5-5 hours over and downwind of Âpointed city (Manaus) and also over the cleaner green (forest) environment. Aerosol properties and their time evolution will be determined as a function of aerosol loading over clean and mixed types of air sampling. Purpose:
|
Observe the optical properties of aerosols using Nephelometer and PSAP instruments. Light scattering and absorption coefficients are measured at three wavelengths in visible band to observe/constrain the emissions and radiative impacts of aerosol over polluted and cleaner environments
